PIQE Texas

A Program of the Dallas Concilio of Hispanic Service Organization

The PIQE mission is

To promote family involvement in a child’s educational process thereby strengthening the working partnership between the home, school and community.

Our mission is built on a four point philosophy:

  •  All parents love their children and want a better future for them.
  •  Every child can learn and deserves the opportunity to attend and complete a college education.
  •  Parents and teachers need to work together to ensure the educational success of every child.
  •   For children, learning is a natural process that parents and teachers facilitate.

Objectives

To encourage parents in taking a participatory role in assisting their children to:

  • Improve parent/child relationships
  • Stay in School
  • Improve their performance in class
  • Graduate from high school
  • Attend a college or a university
  • Earn a college diploma

Goals

  • Strengthen the relationship between families, schools and communities.
  • Provide families with the tools necessary to improve their child’s learning process.
  • Ensure the educational success of every child.

Curriculum

The training sessions are offered in morning sessions and repeated in the evening. Families choose when they can attend. Sessions will be taught in English and Spanish by trained facilitators. The initial planning session asks families about topics they would like to have included in the course, curriculum topics include:

  •  Home/School Collaboration
  • The Home, Motivation and Self-esteem
  • Communication and Discipline
  • Drug and gang awareness
  • Academic Standards
  • How the School System Functions
  • Obstacles in Children’s Success
  • College and career preparation

The last session is the Practicum where the principal and staff members respond to questions from families and further acquaint them with available school resources, opportunities to volunteer, and other programs to support continuing education of parents.  The course culminates in a graduation ceremony where parents receive a certificate of completion in their own children’s presence.  It’s a real celebration!
